Excerpt from The Eternity Code

Here is one of the books I read last week, a light read with fairies, fun, and flatulent dwarves. The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer is a middle-grade adventure in the Artemis Fowl series, guaranteed to keep your young reader (or you) interested. It’s an entertaining read; just see if you can keep up with Artemis and his schemes.

Excerpt from The BFG

I’ve finished a few books in the past week, including one by a favourite author of mine, Mary Higgins Clark, but the one I had to highlight was Roald Dahl’s The BFG. BFG, for those of you who don’t know, stands for Big Friendly Giant. It has grown in popularity since being made into a movie by Steven Spielberg. This is such a fun read, filled with lots of scrumdiddlyumptious words!

Excerpt from Downfall

This week’s teaser is from Downfall: A Brady Novel of Suspense by J.A. Jance. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate. There are a lot of references to Sheriff Brady’s previous cases and experiences in Downfall, and it sounds like she’s had an exciting career.

Excerpt from Family Tree

My book this week is not a mystery or a thriller, but a “slice of life” women’s contemporary novel, Family Tree, a novel by Susan Wiggs. I wasn’t sure when I downloaded it whether it would keep me interested, or whether it would be a yawn that I eventually gave up on. It has turned out to be a fascinating tapestry of interwoven stories, a combination of family epic, romance, and recovery from tragedy.

Excerpt from V is for Vengeance

It’s been years since I read one of Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Millhone books. I think it was somewhere around the middle of the alphabet! I’m most of the way through V is for Vengeance now, and enjoying sassy P.I. Kinsey’s adventures as she tries to sort out the mystery behind an apparent suicide.

Excerpt from Refugee

This is an amazing book. Award-winning Alan Gratz brings us Refugee, three intertwining stories of refugees from each of Nazi Germany, Cuba, and Syria. Gratz takes you into the lives of these three children, their families, and the heartbreak they go through in trying to reach freedom. Gripping, heartfelt, and engaging, put this one on your TBR list.

Excerpt from Grave Peril

I just finished Grave Peril (The Dresden Files, Book 3) by Jim Butcher. A very fun read about a smart aleck Wizard fighting evil forces trying to take over the city. Something is stirring up trouble, and he needs to figure out what it is before it destroys him and his friends.
