Excerpt from Grave Peril

Did you pick up a copy of She Wore Mourning? If so, I hope you are enjoying it! Let me know what you think.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers atĀ The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.

I just finished Grave PerilĀ (The Dresden Files, Book 3) by Jim Butcher. A very fun read about a smart aleck Wizard fighting evil forces trying to take over the city. Something is stirring up trouble, and he needs to figure out what it is before it destroys him and his friends.

The sign on the door reads, simply, Harry Dresden, Wizard. Just inside the door is a table, covered with pamphlets with titles like: Magic and You, and Why Witches Donā€™t Sink Any Faster Than Anyone Elseā€”a Wizardā€™s Perspective. I wrote most of them. I think itā€™s important for we practitioners of the Art to keep up a good public image. Anything to avoid another Inquisition.

Jim Butcher, Grave Peril

Harry Dresdenā€™s faced some pretty terrifying foes during his career. Giant scorpions. Oversexed vampires. Psychotic werewolves. It comes with the territory, when youā€™re the only professional wizard in the Chicago area phone book.

But in all Harryā€™s years of supernatural sleuthing, heā€™s never faced anything like this: the spirit worldā€™s gone postal. All over Chicago, ghosts are causing troubleā€”and not just of the door-slamming, boo-shouting variety. These ghosts are tormented, violent, and deadly. Someoneā€”or somethingā€”is purposely stirring them up to wreak unearthly havoc. But why? And why do so many of the victims have ties to Harry? If Harry doesnā€™t figure it out soon, he could wind up a ghost himself…
