There is so much to give thanks for, even in tough times. We had a week of challenges last week, but have been blessed in so many things. Showing gratitude for the good things and blessings in our life is important, so it is nice to have a day set apart to do so. I probably don’t have to tell you it’s American Thanksgiving! There have been lots of #givethanks posts on my Facebook timeline this week, and I have been buoyed up by everyone’s words of thanks. During challenging times, it is easy to get swamped by negative feelings and influences, and counting your blessings can provide a much-needed boost. Even hearing about others’ blessings seems to be helping me.

Giving thanks

This Monday is Canadian Thanksgiving. I read a few internet articles talking about the differences between Canadian and American Thanksgiving, besides the obvious difference in dates, of course. There are more similarities than differences between our observances. According to the Wikipedia article, “The theme of the Thanksgiving holiday also changed each year to reflect an important event to be thankful for,” but that has not been the case for almost one hundred years.

Thanksgiving Giving!

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving, and I am thankful for my readers!

I know, most of you are in the US, and your Thanksgiving day isn’t for another month and a half yet. But the growing season is shorter in Canada and our harvest is in. We’ve had our first frost and first blizzard of the year (at least in my part of the country) and our thoughts are turned to toasty socks and stretching out with a good book by the fire.
