Springing into Easter Reads

After some of the polar weather we experienced during February, the warmer weather in March has been very pleasant. And while Daylight Savings Time has set us back an hour, the days are definitely getting longer and the dawn earlier; where I live, anyway. I know my readers are from all over the world, but I’m sure you’re still fascinated with the changing seasons here! The weather is a very important topic of discussion in places where there is a wide variation in weather from day to day and week to week. (And sometimes minute to minute!)

All of which is to say: I am very glad for the spring! While we are not really past the danger of snow until late May, hopefully the four foot high piles of snow are behind us and we have nothing worse than spring flurries in the next couple of months.

As well as the warmer weather and longer days, spring brings with it green grass, flowers (eventually…), baby animals, and Easter. So, how about some Easter and spring themed books?

Although I have built up my repertoire of Christmas/winter themed books, I don’t have much out yet that takes place around Easter. But I do have one on preorder with an Easter/Ostara/Equinox theme. Magic Ain’t a Game is book #11 in the Reg Rawlins, Psychic Investigator series but can be read as a stand alone mystery.

Magic Ain’t a Game

Blast from the past!

Spring equinox was supposed to be a fun time in Black Sands.

The magical Spring Games are being held in town, with all kinds of new talent and tourists pouring money into the economy. Of course, Reg wasn’t invited to participate, but she figured she’d have a good time watching the entertainment, learning more about how magic works outside of fairy tales, and maybe making some coin with psychic predictions for the tourists.

But instead of the promised state of balance the equinox was supposed to bring, a power shift within the community has disrupted everything, Reg is under investigation for magical crimes, and her footing in Black Sands is more precarious than ever.

“Tell me again how this was all supposed to be fun?”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love this spellbinding series. I know I’ve said this before, but this series really does get better with each book. The magical crimes investigation had me on the edge of my seat throughout. The excellent storytelling combined with well developed characters and a complex plot make this one great read. —Sandy, Goodreads reviewer

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Let the games begin. Reg has more to worry about than the games as her past comes back in a unexpected way. I love these magical characters and this series. Looking forward to what comes next. —Kandy, Goodreads reviewer

With a harsh Maine winter finally over, Lucy Stone is excited to cover the annual Easter egg hunt for the Tinker’s Cove Pennysaver. Hosted by elderly socialite Vivian Van Vorst at her oceanfront estate, it’s a swanky event where the eggs are as likely to contain savings bonds as jelly beans. But when Lucy arrives at Pine Point, the gates are locked, and a man dressed as the Easter Bunny emerges, only to drop dead moments later…

The victim is Vivian’s grandson, and all is not well at Pine Point. Vivian has been skipping lunch dates, and her charitable donations have abruptly stopped. Is she going senile? Or are her heirs a little too anxious to take over her estate? As Lucy gathers a basketful of suspects, she’ll have to try not to fall down a rabbit hole as she chases a killer with a deadly case of spring fever…

Easter Hair Hunt

But when she’s asked to comb the grounds for leftover goodies, Marla discovers more than just a few dyed eggs. The dead body in the bunny costume is definitely not having a good hare day. And Blinky seems to have disappeared down a rabbit hole.

When trying to solve a murder, everyone needs a friend who’s all ears. For Marla, that’s her husband, homicide detective Dalton Vail. They make an eggcellent team. Dalton isn’t the kind to leap to conclusions, but with his wife seven months pregnant, and knowing Marla finds crime-solving to be irresistible, he worries about her running off on another hare-raising adventure.

Marla’s peeps are hoping for a happy ending, but she may have found a basketful of trouble this time.

Easter Egg Hunt Murder

During an Easter egg hunt, Roland “Beanie” Bean and his two-year-old son Evan are searching for eggs when they find a woman sprawled in the dirt beneath a hibiscus bush.

Little Evan thinks the lady is just sleeping, but Beanie knows better.

The nasty gash on the woman’s forehead might not have killed her, but the stab wounds in her chest appear to be fatal.

As an investigative reporter at the Palmchat Gazette, Beanie is the perfect person to cover the story, considering that he found the victim.

Narrowing down the field of suspects, Beanie finds out the victim had plenty of enemies. Not only was she unfaithful to her husband, but she was blackmailing her lover and cheating her business partner and may have been involved in a scam with a vicious island cartel.
As Beanie continues to investigate, he uncovers sinister secrets and devious motives among those who were closest to the victim. Racing to discover the killer, he ends up the target of a diabolical murderer who won’t hesitate to kill again.

Though directed by her superiors to close the investigation, Crowder keeps digging. She suspects Monsignor Rossi, whose connections to the victims are too suspicious to overlook. But can she prove that the clergyman is a cold-blooded murderer in time to save Diaz?

The Easter Sunday Slaughter

Amateur sleuth (and ace baker) Claire Andersen is back! Winter melts to spring in scenic Galway, Maryland, uncovering blooming friendships new and old, a shyly budding romance, the rotten stench of organized crime, and family drama more garish than Claire’s emerging blood lilies.

Settling in just fine to her new Appalachian digs (and getting the hang of this whole proprietress of a B&B thing, too!), NYC native Claire Andersen is living a cozy small town fairy tale. There are quirky local characters and adorable little shops, not to mention a kitchen full of mouth-watering baked goodies. She’s a veritable June Cleaver—if Leave It to Beaver were nestled in the mountains and June were a recently retired empty nester, that is.

There’s just one problem. Claire can hardly say “Gee, golly” before her newly-acquainted and much-beloved neighbor winds up murdered in cold blood, right before Galway’s annual Easter parade. Hot off the heels of her last murder, Claire can’t help but get involved (much to the chagrin of the well-meaning albeit bumbling town sheriff). She can hardly help herself, after all. The murder did take place right next door… and the victim’s family is staying in her B&B… Ever the hostess, poking around is the least she could do.

Toxic Toffee

But back home in Harvest, death becomes the main attraction when Stephen Raber keels over from an apparent heart attack—with Bailey and Raber’s pet bunny as witnesses.
.
Except it wasn’t Raber’s heart that suddenly gave out—a lethal dose of lily of the valley was mixed into a tasty piece of toffee. Who’d want to poison a jovial rabbit farmer who reminded Bailey of an Amish Santa Claus? To solve the murder, she and her sheriff deputy boyfriend Aiden must uncover a twenty-year-old secret. She’ll need to pull a rabbit out of a hat to keep a healthy distance from toxic people, including one venomous killer…
