This week, in one of my writing groups, the subject of Kabedon came up. Not something I had ever heard of before, so I won't assume that you have either. Kabedon is a new trend in Japanese courtship, popularized in manga and anime. Kabe-don ("wall punch") is the act of the man slapping his hand on the wall next to the woman, pinning her in position by his proximity. I am currently reading Sandra Brown's Low Pressure. A murder mystery where the main character, Bellamy Lyston, has written a fictional novel based on her own sister's murder and all of the personalities involved. This might not seem like such a bad idea when the killer had already been caught, tried, and incarcerated, but if the wrong man ended up in prison, that would mean that the real killer is still on the outside. Brown ramps up the suspense as Bellamy digs into past to try to discover the bits of what happened that day that she has blocked from her memory.  ...

Brad Meltzer is a master of the political intrigue thriller. Looking at his Amazon page, he also writes biographies for children that look quite interesting! I am loving Zig in The Escape Artist, underdog, mortician for fallen soldiers at Dover Air Force Base, still in mourning over the death of his young daughter years before. He is an artist and a someone who believes deeply in making things right. Not a lot of writers can pull off main characters who are broken or depressed, but Meltzer does it well ...
