Southern Book Club Takes Readers on a Dark Ride
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix is billed as "Steel Magnolias meets Dracula." Sort of a horror book for those who might not usually read horror. While packaged like literary or women's fiction, don't be fooled ...
Wedding Cake Crush
Erin did not find the body. In fact, she had nothing to do with the body. She wasn’t responsible for the stranger’s death, or for his body being discovered. But she would like to have it all sorted out by the time Mrs. Peach returns from her cruise ...
New Release! Their Walls Were Empty
Eager to start the next Zachary Goldman Mystery? Zachary is on the trail of a couple of burglars in this one. Or is he?
Their Walls Were Empty is #12 in this private investigator series, but can be read as a stand alone.
T. Olson says: As usual, this is a very well written and interesting story, easy to read and with excellent characters. This time there's a mystery within a mystery, and a nice little twist at the end ...
A Journey into Botswana in The Kalahari Typing School for Men
I'm not sure how many of the books I have read in the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith. Maybe just one other one. The Kalahari Typing School for Men is number four in the series. It can, of course, be read as a stand alone. The mysteries dealt by the ladies are not suspenseful and thrilling, but instead take you on a journey into the culture and streets of Botswana. It is a slower pace, with lots of domestic details and carefully drawn characters. It is easy to find yourself pulled into these books even if you are used to the faster-paced mystery thrillers. ...
A round-up of autism posts
In Canada, October is Autism Awareness Month, so I thought I would include a post showcasing some of the autism posts I already have written on my site. It's easy to lose track of them after a while! Hopefully, you will find something here that is helpful or speaks to you. There are lots of great resources out there. ...
Learn about The Other People
I am nearly finished The Other People by C.J. Tudor, and it has been an interesting journey! A well-built psychological mystery, with a bit of the supernatural thrown in, you're never quite sure what is real and how much can be explained logically. ...
Grab a Bookish Treat for Halloween
The air is getting cooler, the leaves are falling from the treats and are beautiful shades of yellow and orange. And that means that Halloween coming! I have pulled together a couple of Halloween book packages for you! ...
A look back at the future in Click Here for Murder
Click Here for Murder by Donna Andrews has been a fun and clever read so far. The main narrator (it has multiple points of view) is an AI personality that has gained sentience. I have not read book one in the Turing Hopper series, but there is enough backstory for me to understand the main points of what has happened prior to this story. I have read some of Donna Andrews' Meg Langslow series, which is quite good ...
Guest Post: Have You Met Anastasia?
Crafts and murder don’t normally go hand-in-hand, but normal deserted magazine crafts editor Anastasia Pollack’s world the day her husband permanently cashed in his chips in Las Vegas and her comfortable middle-class life crapped out. She’s also stuck with Lucille, her semi-invalid Communist mother-in-law and leader of the octogenarian Daughters of the October Revolution ...
October is my Bookiversary
Yes, we are coming up on the anniversary of the release of the first book I published, Looking Over Your Shoulder. Nine years ago, I waded into the independent publishing waters and launched the first of many (currently 88 released) books. It has been an interesting journey and I have learned a lot! ...

Detective Margie “Parks Pat” Patenaude is called to the gruesome scene, and despite what she can see with her own eyes, does not believe that this is an open-and-shut case of the victim being in the wrong place at the wrong time ...
Checking out a new series with Gone
I am just finishing up Randall Wayne White's Gone, the first book in his new Hannah Smith series. This is a difficult one for me to review. I am all for books that expose trafficking and predatory practices to the light of day, and inform people in an entertaining way, I had difficulty with the characters in this first in series. ...
A case as cold as ice cream
September 22 is National Ice Cream Cone Day, and I thought it would be a great day to feature mysteries with cold cases. ...
Explore a Highland Mystery in Plaid and Plagiarism
This is a nice little cozy set in the Scottish Highlands. Four friends arrive to set up house and open up a bookstore, teashop, and bed and breakfast, but all of their plans go out the window when a body is discovered in the shed. Fun characters, lots of interesting developments, and beautiful covers make this a series I am sure I will be returning to ...

It has been almost a year since the last Zachary Goldman Mystery was released, and it is time for some more!
Today, He Drowned in Memory, book #11 in the series is live. Zachary is out of the hospital and on the trail of his missing brother. Only there are a few surprises along the way, and maybe some things that he didn't want to dig up from the family's past.
He Drowned in Memory can be read as a stand alone mystery/suspense or as part of the series ...
Get your coffee fix with Roast Mortem
I am currently reading Roast Mortem, book 9 in Cleo Coyle's Coffeehouse Mystery series. Cleo Coyle is the pen name of award-winning author Alice Alfonsi, collaborating with her husband, Marc Cerasini. It is obvious from what I have read so far that they did plenty of research to get all of the details of the firefighters and coffee-making business right. Even as a non-coffee-drinker, you might find yourself salivating over the descriptions of the perfect cups of espresso, lattes, and every other variation on coffee that you can think of. ...
