Excerpt from The Polygamist’s Daughter

Most of the books I mention here are young adult, suspense, or mystery. Ninety-nine percent are fiction. But last week I picked up Anna LeBaron’s memoir, The Polygamist’s Daughter. As a rule, I don’t read memoirs, but this one intrigued me. Annan is not a polished writer, but she has a story to tell, and I enjoyed reading it. The Polygamist’s Daughter is a journey of faith rather than an expose, so don’t expect a lot of action.

Thanksgiving Giving!

Today is Canadian Thanksgiving, and I am thankful for my readers!

I know, most of you are in the US, and your Thanksgiving day isn’t for another month and a half yet. But the growing season is shorter in Canada and our harvest is in. We’ve had our first frost and first blizzard of the year (at least in my part of the country) and our thoughts are turned to toasty socks and stretching out with a good book by the fire.

Excerpt from The Eternity Code

Here is one of the books I read last week, a light read with fairies, fun, and flatulent dwarves. The Eternity Code by Eoin Colfer is a middle-grade adventure in the Artemis Fowl series, guaranteed to keep your young reader (or you) interested. It’s an entertaining read; just see if you can keep up with Artemis and his schemes.

Excerpt from The BFG

I’ve finished a few books in the past week, including one by a favourite author of mine, Mary Higgins Clark, but the one I had to highlight was Roald Dahl’s The BFG. BFG, for those of you who don’t know, stands for Big Friendly Giant. It has grown in popularity since being made into a movie by Steven Spielberg. This is such a fun read, filled with lots of scrumdiddlyumptious words!

Release of Gluten-Free Murder and other Awesome New Releases

I am so excited to kick off my first cozy mystery series. While I’ve been flexing my mystery muscles recently with books such as The Girl in the Morgue and She Wore Mourning, the Auntie Clem’s Bakery series has a different vibe. A little lighter and more fun, with animal antics and delicious baking as a counterpoint to the murder investigations. Gluten-Free Murder is the first of three books and two shorts stories to get this series off and running!

Excerpt from Downfall

This week’s teaser is from Downfall: A Brady Novel of Suspense by J.A. Jance. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series, but I certainly wouldn’t hesitate. There are a lot of references to Sheriff Brady’s previous cases and experiences in Downfall, and it sounds like she’s had an exciting career.
