Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day

January 22 is National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day. Are you prepared for it?

Well, first you probably want to know what Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day is all about! As you know, cats are known for being curious. If your cat is like the one around here, you might get a lot of questions!

Here is Q-Tip using the exercise bike to look out the window. What else is an exercise bike for?

This article at National Today answers some questions that your cat might have:

1. Why can’t I eat those plants in the house?

Plants that are toxic to our feline friends include azaleas, mistletoe, lilies, holly, and more out of the house – keep them out of the house.

2. Why can’t I have all the milk?

Contrary to popular belief, cats shouldn’t have too much milk – particularly if your kitty is lactose intolerant. Cats will get diarrhea if they can’t properly digest milk, and also will be at higher risk of obesity if their diets aren’t closely watched.

3. Why can’t I scratch the sofa?

Scratching is normal for cats, and owners should make sure to provide adequate scratching posts to ensure their cats don’t get stressed or depressed.

4. Why do people think sleeping cats are lazy?

It’s just what they do. Cats spend 70% of their lives sleeping – around 13-17 hours of the day. It’s healthy and normal behavior, not laziness.

5. Why do humans declaw cats?

Not only is declawing your cat cruel, but it’s also dangerous to their overall safety and wellness. Look around online or ask your vet about the many safe ways to get your cat’s claw off your sofa.

There are lots of great suggestions in that article that suggest ways that you can spend National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day. But they don’t suggest one of the most important, which is to read books about cats!

A reviewer once posted the question whether all of my books have cats in them. No, I have written plenty of books without cats in them. But I do have cats in both of my longest series:

Gluten-Free Murder

Erin Price moves to Bald Eagle Falls, a place where everyone knows everyone as well as everyone else’s business, taking over the store left to her by her aunt to start up a gluten-free bakery. The grand opening is marred by just one thing, the death of her business rival, Angela Plaint. It appears that Angela was poisoned by one of Erin’s cupcakes, making her a prime suspect.

Equipped with cupcakes, her desire for the truth, and new bakery assistant Vicky’s help, Erin goes head-to-head against Detective Terry Piper to solve the murder. Rumors of treasure hunting, drug dealing, and a missing boy swirl around Bald Eagle Falls as Erin tries to sort the clues from the red herrings and find the killer before the killer can take care of her.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ P.D. Workman has done it again! This introduction to a new series involves a fresh start, sympathetic characters, and a murder. I spent the last ten minutes of the book standing up to read because I was off to do something but just couldn’t put it down until I got to the end. I haven’t been that invested in a book in a while.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Couldn’t put it down !! From a cute kitten to a police dog to a bakery for people with allergies ! Highly recommend!

Gluten-Free Murder features Orange Blossom, a ginger cat rescued by Erin Price as a stray kitten that snuck into her bakery.

“She was almost asleep when he climbed up the sheets onto the bed. He crept around the bed, exploring. Erin kept absolutely still, not wanting to scare him away or to have him start chasing her wiggling toes under the bedding. If she just stayed still, he would settle in and let her sleep.

Eventually, she felt the kitten squeeze up against her back, kneading the bed with his little paws. He started to purr, a tiny, old-man grumble. His purrs and the warmth of his body lulled her to sleep.”

What the Cat Knew

Reg Rawlins, professional con, has really gotten herself into a bind this time.

The fortune teller gig started as a scam, but she suddenly finds herself tangled up in the case of Warren Blake, a man who she thought was dead. It turns out he may still be alive, but in mortal peril.

Reg has always taken the quick exit, the easy way out, but running out on this racket might mean someone else’s death.

Staying in it might mean hers.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It sounds like a fairly gentle story, but there is a lot of suspense involved. Add a bunch of humor to the mix and you are in for a treat … This is a story that you don’t want to put down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book has all my favourite things: heart, great writing, nearly-flawless editing, something unusual in the air, and a cat.

The cat in the Reg Rawlins, Private Investigator series is Starlight. Reg picks him out – or he picks her out – at the animal shelter. As you will find out in the series, there is more to Starlight than there might appear!

“She got back home with the clear feeling that she had escaped something predatory. Starlight rubbed against her legs, yowling at her. It was probably just the smell of the leftover burger in Reg’s takeout container, but she liked to think that he was relieved to see her and have her home again.

“I made it,” she said. “I wasn’t sure I was going to.”

She put the container on the counter and bent down to pick Starlight up. “You helped me even though you weren’t there,” she confided, speaking with her lips pressed against the short, velvety fur of his head. “I just kept thinking of you biting my ankles.”

He purred loudly, pressing his head against her. Reg had a sudden vision of Corvin, storming down the alley behind The Crystal Bowl, kicking over garbage cans in a fit of rage.”

There is another rescued kitten in Virtually Harmless:

“P. D. Workman has outdone herself with this riveting techno-thriller featuring Micah Miller, a forensic artist specializing in composite renderings based on forensic DNA phenotyping … This book offers plenty of thrills, chills, suspense and white-knuckled tension as the plot unfolds and it kept me turning pages until late into the night. The story is clean and well-written, the plot is fascinating, the pace is relentless and the characters are realistic and relatable. I highly recommend this absorbing and thoroughly enjoyable thriller to anyone who favors CSI, NCIS, Cold Case, Forensic Files or any high-tech inspired crime-solving theme.”

—Kim, Goodreads reviewer

Micah didn’t meet her mother’s eyes. She looked down at the kitten. The cat was getting braver, poking her head up and watching the strangers. Curious as a cat. Micah had never known how apt the expression was before.

“What did you name her?” Marianna asked.

Micah squirmed. “Uh… Meow.”

Cole laughed loudly, making the kitten burrow her head back down into Micah’s arm and side. “Meow? You know, they have sites on the internet where you can look up good names for cats.”

Micah rolled her eyes. “I know. I looked at some of them. But they’re just… too cutesy. I don’t want a silly pun on some actor’s name, or something based on her color or something ironic like a dog’s name. I wanted… something suited to a cat.”

“Well, I guess I can’t argue with the suitability of a cat being named Meow, but really! It’s not very inventive, is it?”

“It’s how she communicates. Why wouldn’t you… pick a name that your pet can actually say?”

“But if everyone went by that principle, then all cats would be named Meow and all dogs would be named Bark.”

“But not everyone does.”

“No.” Cole chuckled again. “You are… you have always had your own way of thinking about things.”

More cats and kittens

Haven’t had your fill yet? There are plenty more books featuring cats that my fellow authors would like to share with you! And a few of them are actually talking cats who could ask you their questions in English. (Though I imagine a curious cat’s questions would be similar to the non-stop questions of a two-year-old…)

Milly & Coco

The story starts with Milly the mouse
happily asleep in her little house.

She hasn´t even opened her eyes
when she hears a nasty surprise.

Coco the cat! A mouse-eating machine!

But not everything is as it seems….

Shelby and Jesse are back on the island they love, living at a dive resort while Jesse delves into research for his dissertation.
