Stay up tonight and read The Late Show

Stay up tonight and read The Late Show

I am reading The Late Show by Michael Connelly, the second book in the Renée Ballard and Harry Bosch series. I have actually read book number two, Dark Sacred Night before this. It is a good series. I think that the main character, Renée Ballard is a little more non-conforming in this book than she is in book 2. She breaks quite a few police procedure rules, in fact. If that's the kind of thing that drives you crazy as a reader, you might want to give this one a pass! ...
Humour in a police procedural? Read A Bad Day for Sunshine

Humour in a police procedural? Read A Bad Day for Sunshine

It isn't often that you come across a police procedural infused with humour. Not just occasional, subtle humour, but full of laugh-out-loud tongue in cheek humour. I have really been enjoying Darynda Jone's A Bad Day for Sunshine. Sunshine is the name of the police chief in this small town police procedural featuring the kidnapping of a teenager who is friends with her own daughter. ...

Excerpt from Kingdom of the Blind

I am currently reading Kingdom of the Blind, by Louise Penny, the new Chief Inspector Gamache book. The Gamache series is set in Quebec, Canada, and is a great mystery series with lots of description, ongoing relationships, and twists and turns as the mystery is developed. ...

Excerpt from Occam’s Razor

I have read a few interesting books lately. Right now, I am on Occam's Razor, (Joe Gunther Mysteries Book 10), by Archer Mayor. (Occam's Razor, in case you are wondering, has sometimes been summarized as "When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.") It is a good solid police procedural, and I am enjoying it so far! ...
Excerpt from I Can See You

Excerpt from I Can See You

I had a tough time deciding which book to do an excerpt from today! I just finished books 1 and 2 of Michael Leese's Jonathan Roper Investigates series. I quite enjoyed these books, with a team made up of neurotypical police detective Brian Hooley and autistic consultant Johnathan Roper. My excerpt is from book 2, I Can See You.  ...
Excerpt from Criminal

Excerpt from Criminal

I am currently reading Karin Slaughter's Criminal, book 6 in the Will Trent series. I have not read any of the other books in the series, but haven't had any problems with jumping in mid-series. While the series is named after Will Trent, the story has been more about his boss Amanda than about Will. I do want to hear more about Will and might have to check out some of the other books ...
Excerpt from The Yard

Excerpt from The Yard

I just finished The Yard by Alex Grecian an hour ago. I don't think I've read anything else by this author. It was an enjoyable police procedural with lots of good historical details about Victorian England. There are several intersecting plots and the identity of the killer is revealed fairly early. The character development is good and I would definitely read others in the series.  ...
Excerpt from This Body of Death

Excerpt from This Body of Death

This is the second week in a row that I'm not using the Amazon synopsis for my spotlight. The Amazon sales copy was pitiful, so I have quoted from Bookbrowse. My teaser this week is from This Body of Death, An Inspector Lynley Novel, by Elizabeth George. It is a police procedural with lots of twists and turns, and I am still trying to figure out how the two disparate timelines are going to connect up.  ...
