Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.

As a longtime fan of the Magical Cats series by Sophie Kelly, I always look forward to revisiting this whimsical world after diving into more serious reads. Kelly has a wonderful knack for crafting light-hearted paranormal mysteries that keep readers engaged without feeling overwhelmed. The sprinkle of magic adds an enchanting layer to the storyβ€”who wouldn’t enjoy a cat that can disappear and another that walks through walls? I swear sometimes my cat has one of these powers. How else would she end up in a room that I had just shut the door to when she was on the other side of the door? And I can’t count the number of times I have heard her in the room, and looked up to see… nothing.

The issues of the magical propensity of cats aside, Kelly excels at weaving a solid mystery filled with intriguing clues that guide readers along the way. The cast of characters populating the town adds depth and charmβ€”there’s the cop boyfriend, helpful neighbors, interesting coworkers at the library, and even two children dealing with difficult challenges after being removed from their alcoholic father’s custody.

In Furever After, book 16 in the Magical Cats series a thief meets his untimely demise while attempting to steal a painting that no one knew was valuableβ€”and which shouldn’t even have been at the library in the first place. The initial phase of the mystery revolves around uncovering how this seemingly insignificant piece of art ended up there. As Kathleen digs deeper, supported by her internet-savvy feline companions, the reader is treated to an engaging blend of suspense and lighthearted moments that make this cozy mystery a delightful read.

And no spoilers here, but be prepared for a mushy ending with Kathleen’s own Furever After moment!

Furever After is another charming installment in Sophie Kelly’s beloved series, packed with mystery, magic, and heartwarming character dynamics. Whether you’re already familiar with these magical cats or new to their adventures, you’re bound to enjoy this enchanting tale! Furever After can be read as a standalone.

I was about to head up to the second-floor staff room when I saw a faint glimmer of light out of the corner of my eye.

Summary

Librarian Kathleen Paulson is in for a spell of trouble when she finds a dead body, and only her reliable magical cats can help her tail a killer in the newest installment of this New York Times bestselling series.

Kathleen is busy running the library and planning her upcoming wedding to detective Marcus Gordon when she suddenly stumbles across a body in the library. She is surprised to learn that the deceased was in the middle of an unlikely heistβ€”it seems he was trying to steal one of the paintings that had been in a box in the library’s workroom. Kathleen never knew any of the library’s rotating artwork was valuable and can’t imagine what the dead man wanted with it.

But then an art history expert called in by the police identifies the almost-purloined painting as a piece that might have been part of a previous high profile art theft. Owen’s and Hercules’s whiskers are already twitching, and events soon make Kathleen realize that whoever killed the wannabe art thief has more than murder on their mind. Kathleen and her clever cats will have to work fast to prevent anyone else from getting hurt.
