October is over, but you don’t have to wait for National ADHD Awareness month to read great fiction with ADHD characters! Check out last week’s blog for details!
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.
I just finished The Facts of Life and Death by Belinda Bauer. An interesting psychological thriller about tracking down a serial killer. Bauer writes lyrical descriptions of the north Devon setting and the people who inhabit it. Most psychological thrillers are written from the viewpoint of an adult, so this one definitely breaks the mold by employing the POV of ten-year-old Ruby Trick for most of the book.
Well-developed characters and setting, good clues and red herrings. A heart-stopping climax. I would definitely read more by Belinda Bauer.
‘Don’t rush to grow up, Rubes,’ he said. ‘There’s nothing good waiting for you there.’
Belinda Bauer, The Facts of Life and Death
On the beaches and cliffs of North Devon, England, vulnerable women have become the victims of a series of shocking crimes. Forced to strip naked and then call their families to say goodbye, they are the losers in a madman’s cruel and deadly game . . .
At the age of ten, Ruby Trick knows little of the horrors of the world. Her fears are much closer to home: school bullies, the dark forest that surrounds her crumbling house, and the threat of her parents’ divorce. When her father joins the hunt for the killer terrorizing their seaside town, Ruby tries to help in the hopes of keeping him close. But she soon learns that real evil is much scarier than the things that go bump in the night.
Sounds spooky enough!
