Excerpt from Killing Floor

Killing Floor is Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel. I’m sure that I have read it before. A couple of points have “rung a bell,” but otherwise it has been like reading it for the first time.

This is not quite the same Jack Reacher as we know and love in the later books in the series. Like any character, he has morphed and become more well-rounded as the series has developed. This first book is written in first person point of view (“I”) instead of third person (“he”), which is a little disconcerting if you are not used to getting right inside of Jack Reacher’s head. And Reacher sings. Both in his head and out loud. There’s lots of stuff about his interest in music in this book that you won’t find in the other books in the series.

Those differences aside, Jack is still Jack, and you can expected the chills, thrills, and twists you are used to getting from Lee Child.

You may have been murdering people left and right in a dozen states. I just don’t know. I can’t be expected to give you the benefit of the doubt.
