I’m Reading

Excerpt from The Yard

I just finished The Yard by Alex Grecian an hour ago. I don’t think I’ve read anything else by this author. It was an enjoyable police procedural with lots of good historical details about Victorian England. There are several intersecting plots and the identity of the killer is revealed fairly early. The character development is good and I would definitely read others in the series.

Excerpt from A Wanted Man

I can always rely on Jack Reacher to entertain me! I am reaching A Wanted Man by Lee Child, book #17 in the Jack Reacher series. The interesting thing about this book is that so far, almost all of the Jack Reacher scenes have been in the car. It’s interesting how much tension  you can build with four people stuck in a car together. But then, if you’ve been on a family vacation, you probably already know that!

Excerpt from Breakdown

I’ve read a few of Jonathan Kellerman’s Alex Delaware series over the past year, and have enjoyed them very much. I love the mixture of psychology and mystery. Alex Delaware is a great psychologist with a big heart. I’m just about through this one, as all of the pieces are coming together, but I still don’t know what he is going to find out about the missing boy…

Excerpt from All the Missing Girls

I just started this mystery/suspense today, and it’s kept my attention so far! All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda starts at the end and works its way back to the disappearance/murder of Annaleise, the second girl to go missing from amongst a group of friends, the first of whom disappeared a decade before. It is clear from the beginning that everyone knows more than they have revealed, but they’re not giving up their secrets easily.

Excerpt from This Body of Death

This is the second week in a row that I’m not using the Amazon synopsis for my spotlight. The Amazon sales copy was pitiful, so I have quoted from Bookbrowse. My teaser this week is from This Body of Death, An Inspector Lynley Novel, by Elizabeth George. It is a police procedural with lots of twists and turns, and I am still trying to figure out how the two disparate timelines are going to connect up.

Excerpt from The Breach

Here is a thriller that I picked up recently. You wouldn’t guess from the synopsis on Amazon that The Breach by Patrick Lee is science fiction; I have used a description from tor.com down below to give you a better idea! It is a good ride, with some interesting time travel paradox twists and turns and a cliffhanger ending. But you will find a hero who is not your typical good guy.

Excerpt from Step on a Crack

I’ve read a number of James Patterson’s Michael Bennett series, but this is the first time I’ve read the first in the series, Step on a Crack (Michael Bennett). Lots of action and tension, as Michael Bennett is simultaneously dealing with a hostage situation and caring for his ten children while his wife is dying in the hospital. I anticipated the twist, but it was still a great book!
