I just finished reading the short book 30 Red Dresses by Johan Twiss. This is a book that was featured in my post on books about human trafficking in January, and it caught my eye. I am currently reading The Alice Network, by Kate Quinn. I don’t read a lot of historical novels, but I am enjoying the twists and turns and the great historical and geographical details that are woven into the story. It is an engaging suspense book, and I am looking forward to finding out more about the espionage network and what has happened to Charlie’s cousin.

I am currently reading Dark Sacred Night by Michael Connelly. It is officially part of the Renee Ballard series, but also features Harry Bosch as well. While there are a number of negative reviews on Amazon, I have enjoyed it so far. Michael Connelly is a master writer, he knows how to build characters the reader cares about and he knows his police procedure.

I’ve just started reading Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, by Caroline Criado Perez. As you might guess by the title, this one is not a thriller! But I am finding it very interesting. Not as a “feminist” book, but as a book about data, the way the world has been engineered, how what data we gather affects the results, and how to become more aware of these built-in biases. It is a fascinating subject.

I have been reading The Reckoning, by John Grisham. I generally like Grisham—at least his legal thrillers—but this one has some issues. The first part discusses the murder and outcome. The second part delves back into the past and spends half of the book detailing all of Pete Banning’s experiences in the second world war, where he served in the Philippines. All of the relevant backstory was given in part one and the second part really doesn’t contribute anything to the plot or the reader’s understanding of the crime.

I didn’t realize until I just looked over the series page now that the author is Robert Galbraith—I recognized the name but didn’t remember that’s J.K. Rowling’s pen name. I have also read book four in this series, but don’t remember very much about it.

I am currently reading Kingdom of the Blind, by Louise Penny, the new Chief Inspector Gamache book. The Gamache series is set in Quebec, Canada, and is a great mystery series with lots of description, ongoing relationships, and twists and turns as the mystery is developed.
