It’s better when she’s happy.

Bobby is a geeky teen who is convinced that his new foster home is everything he has ever hoped for.

His foster mom Katya is so different than any he has ever had; but as her behavior becomes more and more unpredictable and disturbing, he comes to realize that both he and Katya’s daughter Zane are in trouble.

The crazy thing is, Bobby doesn’t want to leave her, and new revelations from Bobby’s own forgotten past throw his quest for a real family into further turmoil.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Poignant and heart wrenching but at the same time exciting, thrilling edge of your seat unputdownable

—Absolutely intriguing story! I loved it! The story line was amazing it kept me wanting to read, and wonder what was going to happen

—By-Pass is a book that will make you think, laugh at times and cry a lot. It was a very good story, emotional and sensitive but also happy a lot of times too. I loved the Breaking the Pattern Series from the first book to the last page of the third book

—An inspiring theme about changing direction in life

Author Notes may contain spoilers!

Bobby was a background character in Henry’s and Sandy’s stories. As you have read, he did not get off to a good start in life. He started out with a lot of strikes against him.

Having grown up in foster care, we now meet up with him again as he is moved to Katya’s home. Katya is nothing like any foster parent Bobby has had before.

But things aren’t always what they look like from the outside. And there are a lot of things from the past that Bobby hasn’t dealt with.

“Every book by PD Workman that I’ve read has been a gripping one, however different the genres are, going from lighter mysteries to really dark ones… this is one of my favourite, most dependable authors.”

“P.D. Workman is an incredibly versatile writer. No matter which of her books I read I am drawn into a great story and honestly, I don’t think I’ve followed another author that could go from cozy mystery to YA to a PI series dealing with mental health issues. Really enjoy her books!”

“[P.D. Workman’s] stories are so believable and you can’t help but feel like you know these people. You find yourself crying, laughing and feeling the characters emotions. Now if an author can make you cry and feel every emotion in a story, she is one hell of an author.”

“P. D. Workman, does not shy from probing the deep psychological scars of childhood trauma, mental illness, and addiction. Also characteristic of this author, these extremely sensitive issues are explored with extensive empathy, described with incredible clarity, and portrayed with profound insight.”

“Once again P.D.Workman has created an intense psychological mystery that impacts a wallop of thought induction. The writing is so well developed and draws you into the characters story.”
