If you’ve been hanging around here for a while, you probably know that I write for Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) in November and Camp Nano in April and July every year. The goal in Nanowrimo is to write a book of 50,000 words or more during the month. During the “camps” you can set your own goals, which can be words or hours, however many you like. During Camp Nano, you used to be assigned to a virtual cabin, a message board with a number of other authors, where you could chat with and encourage each other. Things have changed a little with their website overhaul, but it is still a fun even to participate in.

So what am I writing for Camp Nano this month?
I am working on the next three books in the Parks Pat Mysteries series. I have just finished the first draft of book 4, and will get started on book 5 today. Here is a sneak peak:
Immersed in the View (Book 4)
Detective “Parks” Pat is back. Now an established and accepted member of the homicide squad, she unexpectedly brings a new case to the table when she stumbles across a body as Canada Day dawns. While it was initially assumed to be an accidental drowning, the autopsy results say otherwise.
Margie is soon off and running, but the lack of witnesses has her going in circles. Meanwhile, the brass wants the investigation put to bed before the city is flooded with Calgary Stampede tourists and dignitaries.
Skimming over the Lake (Book 5)
It’s Parade Day, and Margie would have thought that any trouble would have centered around drinking and motor vehicles. Or being trampled by horses. Or clowns. But the latest homicide investigation is nowhere near the parade route, but on the outskirts of town. And the culprit appears to be a tiny boat.
Why do so many deaths in parks have to be by drowning?
Margie Patenaude is once again looking at death in the water. The boats may be small, but the suspect list is growing.
Narrowing of the Trail (Book 6)
A mighty fall.
This case might just leave Margie feeling nostalgic about the water deaths she has been investigating lately. A woman is found at the bottom of a 70-meter drop. It is pretty clear from the beginning that she was killed in the fall.
But you can never be sure until the medical examiner’s report comes back. It would appear that there is a lot more to be investigated after all. Maybe this close-knit community wasn’t quite all it appeared to be.
