I so enjoy these Parks Pat books. They’re a quick read which is often perfect for my reading schedule. They’re also a great procedural mystery. I love the characters and the setting. Perfect read.

Echoes of the Engine

Looking for a gripping police procedural series set in the stunning parks of Calgary?

Derailment of Justice

Detective Margie “Parks Pat” Patenaude did not expect to be the first one on the scene at a gruesome accidental death when a walk with Stella took a sudden turn for the worse. The below-grade pedestrian crossing was supposed to prevent such things, but the homeless man encamped up the slope apparently had his own ideas.

But what she had expected to write up as a tragic accidental death takes a sudden, unexpected turn. To begin with, the victim is not what he appeared to be. But that’s just the beginning

Follow Detective Park Pat’s tracks in this fast-paced mystery.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Another great adventure with Margie as she investigates what may or may not be an accident. Such great characters and a story line that keeps you reading until the end. Great series.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This series unfailingly offers interesting characters, gripping mysteries, and a revealing glimpse of some of the prejudices faced daily by certain segments of the population. I love the attention given to pressing societal issues such as racial prejudice, homelessness, and the difficulties of single parenting. I admire the respectful way in which this author chooses to bring these issues to our attention by incorporating them into stories that are informative, heartfelt, and completely captivating.

With its fast-paced plot and unexpected twists, Echoes of the Engine will appeal to fans of suspenseful thrillers and gripping mysteries and will leave readers guessing until the very end.

This promises to be a wonderful series with fantastic characters, interesting locations, and fascinating glimpses into different cultures. The story is of novella length and can easily be read in one sitting if so desired, there is no offensive language, no sex, no graphic violence – just a whopping good story everyone can enjoy.

I am enjoying this new series. The first book was good and this one was even better. Love the characters and the storyline. Can’t wait to read book number three in this series.

I feel like I’m visiting Calgary, Canada and the parks where the murders are taking place in all three books so far. There are vivid descriptions of the park and the wetlands. Margie and her family are woven throughout along with their ancestry which adds a nice touch.

I love these stories. Short, exciting and not really predictable, as many short stories are. Plots are well-developed, characters are interesting, and there’s plenty of local lore and history.

I never thought I would like a police procedural but I do.

Bowness Park and Pearce Estate Park were two of the first places that my husband and I went together, enjoying firesides and activities with friends.

When we were homeschooling, we spent a lot of time at Pearce Estate Park walking the trails, watching the animals, and watching medieval reenactment players sword fighting. The poplar trees produce copious bright yellow crunchy leaves and are beautiful in the fall.

When I worked downtown, I biked home through Pearce Estate Park. During that time the Harvie Passage was built to replace the weir and make the river safer for rafters.

We experienced a hundred-year flood that flooded much of the zoo, Inglewood, and the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary. The water reached the bottom of the train bridge deck and we could not get downtown for a week.

“P.D. Workman is an incredibly versatile writer. No matter which of her books I read I am drawn into a great story and honestly, I don’t think I’ve followed another author that could go from cozy mystery to YA to a PI series dealing with mental health issues. Really enjoy her books!”

“[P.D. Workman’s] stories are so believable and you can’t help but feel like you know these people. You find yourself crying, laughing and feeling the characters emotions. Now if an author can make you cry and feel every emotion in a story, she is one hell of an author.”

Also characteristic of this author, these extremely sensitive issues are explored with extensive empathy, described with incredible clarity, and portrayed with profound insight.”
