National Kitchen Klutzes Day

I have written a lot of posts about some serious social issues. With everything that is going on in the world today, I thought that a lighter post was in order this time.

June 13 is National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day!

I’m sure there isn’t anyone who has never had an accident while preparing food, unless they have never prepared anything. But some of us are more skilled—or more klutzy—than others.

Here are a few quotes from pages celebrating Kitchen Klutzes Day:

National Kitchen Klutzes of America Day is dedicated to everyone who has ever been a klutz in the kitchen. Some of you may have knocked a mixing bowl on the floor when you were stirring it. Some of you may have put the wrong ingredients in a recipe, burnt your creation to a crisp, or cut off your fingers. This day is for all of you. It is a day to remind you that it is okay to be a klutz in the kitchen, at least for a day.

Are you the person who spills the milk? Are you the person who knocks the dish off the counter and breaks it? Well my accident-prone friends today is your day. On Kitchen Klutzes of America Day it’s ok to be klutzy. Yep that’s right! If you broke a dish today then be creative and crafty. Pick up the pieces and glue them on something and have some fun. Maybe you could make yourself a mosaic picture, frame or flower pot. Either way just know that spills and breaks don’t matter at all today. We are all good at cleaning up the messes in life right?  Just enjoy yourself and…. if you see someone be klutzy in the kitchen today… don’t be mean by making them feel bad. Accidents happen all the time so live today on the lighter side of life.

This day is for the mom who cut herself in a knife-skills class she was bought as a gift so that she’d learn to stop cutting herself in the kitchen.

This day is for the girl who couldn’t figure out why her challah dough wasn’t rising, later realizing she used salt instead of sugar.

This day is for the aspiring pumpkin pie maker who dropped a pumpkin down the stairs as a last resort after unsuccessfully trying to slice it with a knife.

These are the people who set out with the intentions of Paula Dean or Julia Child as the open up the cookbook.  Setting out the mixing bowl and ingredients, they imagine knife cuts as swift as Wolfgang Puck or Bobby Flay.  However, reality quickly dissolves all those dreams as smoke billows from the oven and salt is mistaken for sugar.  Those knife cuts become bloody, and cookies and fingers are burnt.  The Kitchen Klutz has struck, and visions of spilled milk are pitifully cried over.
