Another great addition to this series. Pat and her team have their work cut out for them as they try to determine whodunit. I love these characters and reading how they figure things out.

Grounded in the Wind

A stone’s throw from Calgary’s bustling airport lies Prairie Winds Park—a mecca for family fun and the center of a deadly conspiracy.

Perilous Heights, Hidden Depths

When an illegal drone launch causes chaos in Calgary’s airspace, Detective Margie “Parks Pat” Patenaude discovers more than aviation threats. Following the drone’s trail leads her to a chilling discovery—a corpse awaits her in the park’s tranquil scenery.

Digging deeper into this perplexing case, Margie encounters a tangled web of criminal intrigue that challenges her skills and endangers the city she has grown to love.

With tension and suspicion growing within the homicide team, Margie races to unravel the truth before the cartel can launch a devastating attack that could cripple Calgary’s infrastructure.

I am enjoying this new series. The first book was good and this one was even better. Love the characters and the storyline. Can’t wait to read book number three in this series.
—Kandy, Goodreads

I feel like I’m visiting Calgary, Canada and the parks where the murders are taking place in all three books so far. There are vivid descriptions of the park and the wetlands. Margie and her family are woven throughout along with their ancestry which adds a nice touch.

I love these stories. Short, exciting and not really predictable, as many short stories are. Plots are well-developed, characters are interesting, and there’s plenty of local lore and history.

I never thought I would like a police procedural but I do.

Author Notes may contain spoilers!

Q: This book dives deep into drones, cybercrime, and national security. How did you prepare for that?
A: I did a lot of research for Grounded in the Wind. I had to learn about drones, cybercrime, airports, and the different law enforcement and investigative bodies in Canada. I even consulted with some of these organizations to make sure I portrayed the drone incident realistically and that I got the technical aspects—like hacking—right.

Q: What made Prairie Winds Park the right setting?
A: Prairie Winds Park is unique because it’s a popular planespotting location and also protected airspace—you can’t even fly a kite there. That detail added authenticity and tension to the story.

Q: Some readers had strong reactions to your choice of antagonists. Can you talk about that?
A: One early reader was uncomfortable with the use of Ukrainians as part of the plot. Alberta has a very rich history with Ukrainian immigrants, both in the distant past and with recent arrivals after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Including that cultural backdrop added realism, but I know it can also be sensitive.

Also characteristic of this author, these extremely sensitive issues are explored with extensive empathy, described with incredible clarity, and portrayed with profound insight.”
