Excerpt from Gathering Blue

Allergen-Free Assignation was released last Friday. And don’t forget about Dog-Free Dinner, the holiday short in the Auntie Clem’s Bakery series.

This weekend is Thanksgiving in the USA, and I will have a stack of promos for you for Black Friday. Come back and see them!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme. Read the rules and more teasers at The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along.

I picked up the second book in Lois Lowry’s Giver Quartet, Gathering Blue. Lowry has a way with words and I am quite enjoying the story. I love her characters and the way she describes the communities they live in. It’s easy to fall in love with Kira and young Matt.

“Maybe it is something that artists have,” she said, liking the sound of the word she had just learned. “A special kind of magic knowledge.”

Lois Lowry, Gathering Blue

Lois Lowry once again creates a mysterious but plausible future world. It is a society ruled by savagery and deceit that shuns and discards the weak. Left orphaned and physically flawed, young Kira faces a frightening, uncertain future. Blessed with an almost magical talent that keeps her alive, she struggles with ever broadening responsibilities in her quest for truth, discovering things that will change her life forever.
